Supporting Teacher Development Courses for Australian Schools

Our Teacher Professional Development (TPD) workshops will develop your staff as optimisers of student learning and increase their digital capacities. For teachers to become confident in the use of technology in the classroom, they must be familiar with current digital tools.

Robokids TPD is designed to both familiarise teachers with the use of a variety of robots and with coding methods. We offer time and advice in embedding activities into teaching and learning programs and provide you with a list of aligned outcomes for each course.

Robokids Melbourne are running Teacher Development (TD) courses for Prep through to year 8. Our courses reference 4 standards with Victorian Institute of Teaching and The Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA) national teaching outcomes.

professional development courses for teachers

With up to 6 hours of TD that can be accredited in one day for each teacher, our teacher development course facilitate the development for confidence and increase their digital capacity to embed robotics into their scope and sequence programs.

Robokids uses robotics as a medium for 21st Century learning, which involves inquiry-based problem solving catering to each year level. We also differentiate our PD courses for individual capabilities within a year level, according to previous experience.

We provide you with a list of aligned outcomes for each course and a certificate of accreditation for each attending staff member.

The specific standards covered are as follows;

2.6.2 Use effective teaching strategies to integrate ICT into learning and teaching programs to make selected content relevant and meaningful.

3.3.2 Select and use relevant teaching strategies to develop knowledge, skills, problem solving and critical and creative thinking.

3.4.2 Select and/or create and use a range of resources, including ICT, to engage students in their learning.

6.2.2 Participate in learning to update knowledge and practice, targeted to professional needs and school and/or system priorities.

6.4.2 Undertake professional learning programs designed to address identified student learning needs.

“Thanks Michele and Melissa – loved it! Such a weight off my shoulders to know that all the teachers had such a great intro to robotics and can get started next term. Very positive vibe here. Hoping to continue working with you this year.”

Robina Joselin, STEM Coordinator, Wakehurst Public School

  • Year 1 – 2 – Lego We Do 2.0
  • Year 3 – 4 – Lego Spike Prime
  • Year 5 – 8 – Lego Spike Prime and  EV3 Mindstorms

Costs for 2 hours of Teacher Training: (after school or within a PD Day)

  • 1 Robot type ie Bee Bots $650 (up to 15 staff each extra staff member $50)
  • 2 Robot types ie Bee Bot and We Do 2.0 Lego $1300 (up to 15 staff each extra staff member $50)
  • 3 Robots types $1950 (up to 15 staff each extra staff member $50)
  • Your staff choose which session they will attend if applicable for a whole school TPL
  • Travel Fees are in addition to these costs if travelling interstate

To ensure a great day of professional development, here is a list of the learning resources we bring;

  • We bring everything!
  • All Robotic equipment, laptops and iPads
  • Staff worksheets for the session
  • Aligned outcomes for each Stage, aligned to ACARA Digital Technology & specific state English Maths & Science Curriculums.

To facilitate sessions effectively on site, we will need;

  • Workspaces with electronic screens
  • A parking spot as we have quite a bit of gear to bring along.

What your staff will need to bring with them;

  • May use their own device if they wish

“Robokids are so welcome here! The several TPL sessions you have conducted here at PCPS have been excellent and I have very positive feedback from my staff about each session. We will no doubt be working together in the near future.”

Scott Campbell, Principal, Point Clare Public School

Overview to a TPL Session (Can be tailored to specific Staff needs)

  • Introduction to Robotics (15 mins)
    “Why Robotics is a fantastic medium for STEM & 21st Century Education”
  • Break into Year Level individualised Robotic Sessions: (1. 5 hours)
  • Robotic building instruction- Teachers gain experience and familiarity with the equipment whilst they build a robot.
  • Robotic programming instruction- Teachers gain experience and familiarise themselves with coding methods and meet specific fun challenges.
  • Staff reflection/sharing and validation – Teachers ‘show and tell’ their Robotic creations and are given time to discuss how they can align robotics into their Stage content and curriculum outcomes.
