There is something special about seeing students take the skills they’ve developed in the classroom and put them into practice in a real competition.
Recently, our St Ives Grammar Year 5 & 6 robotics team competed in their first VEX IQ Robotics Competition at Trinity College, and we’re thrilled to celebrate their success after taking home the Judges’ Award.
The Judges’ Award recognises teams that demonstrate outstanding teamwork, communication, professionalism and perseverance throughout the event. For students competing for the first time, this is an incredible achievement and a testament to the dedication they’ve shown throughout their robotics journey.
While robotics competitions certainly test technical skills, they also challenge students to think critically, solve problems under pressure, collaborate effectively and communicate their engineering process with judges and peers. These are the real-world skills that help prepare students for the future.
The team is already reviewing what they learnt from the competition and looking ahead to their next event in September, where they’ll continue refining their robot, strengthening their teamwork and building on this fantastic result.
